UNIVERSIRTY!

It hasn't quite sunk in yet, even typing it feels slightly surreal.
I keep catching my self thinking 'I'm actually living in a house now, an actual house.'
I moved in on Saturday the 18th of September and spent pretty much all day unpacking. I've managed to turn my room into something quite 'homey' it doesn't feel so much like 'the room i'm staying in' but more like 'my room.'

I'm living with 5 other house mates, 3 guys and 2 other girls, although the girls are only here until Christmas, they're transfer students from America, they've got two other friends who are always around in the house which makes the house even nicer and funnier to live in, although as they were here a week before we were and they're all from the same school they're a pretty close knit group.
However, overall we all get along and I love living here.

There was a slight bought of home sickness somewhere on the third and fourth day, but nothing that wasn't cured with a few phone calls and a cup of tea :)

I'm living in a 'student village' about a half an hour walk from the University, admittedly it was my last choice for accommodation but I wouldn't change it for anything now, I love the atmosphere here and the way it actually feels like we're students, living away from home, in our own houses and completely responsible. =D

Freshers week has been pretty good too, although I didn't go to all the events, the ones I did were pretty good, everyone was drinking and having a laugh, I bumped into a few people from college which made things seem a little bit more familiar. A long side that I've also had introductory lectures and found people living next door who are also doing the same psychology course as I am.

After this weekend the 'real stuff' starts, and it's already looking to be a challenge, however, there wouldn't be much point in a degree if it wasn't.

...

I over think everything,
It's actually ridiculous.

Give Blood!

Giving blood!!
Side note: Firstly, the idea of writing everything down whilst i'm still so blargggggg, is painful, I would rather  talk to a camera and post it.

Secondly, the video took 12 hours with no result to upload on my blog so i had to use tinypic, sorry for the lower quality, bad screen cap and you might want to turn your volume down!
...p.s. try and enjoy and some of my 'facts and figures' may be slightly off. :)

PPS: I now regret making a video but the idea of typing it out is even more unwelcoming than the idea of me talking awkwardly to the camera...just saying. :)

Newquay!

WOW! (what a corny way to start a post.)
I've had the most amazing few days in Newquay - Cornwall.
The weather was beautiful, we walked from our hotel (Hotel Sunny Side) to Fistral beach (one of the main surfing beaches) but going the wrong way we turned a 20 minute walk into a two hour hike.
(Being the non-map reading outdoors loving people that we are.) Then decided it was too cold and windy took a 15 minute stroll, (I say that, but it was more of a trek) back.
And that was really the only time we ever went more than a mile from the Hotel.
Mostly everyday was spent in the sea beach body boarding which (even despite my slightly irrational 'sea phobia') was ridiculously fun!
Laura, Jodie Liz and I also had a surfing lesson, and although I couldn't actually get my arm around the width of the board, we had such a good time surfing lessons are now the new 'thing to do' when on holidays =D
We spent one morning Horse riding across the marshy, sandy, fieldy place (I don't think there's one word that sums it all up.) I hadn't realised how much I missed it until we were completely cut off from the main roads and it was just us and the horses.
Walking around Newquay was beautiful, the scenery is amazing!
I'd love to go back again maybe the year after next.
We went to a 16-21's night club, but it was absolutely packed (DJ Ironik was making an appearance - and no, we'd never heard of him until then...like I said...my life is questionable.) with the exception of "I say DJ you say Ironik." the rest of the music was pretty much un-inspirational, beatless and dull.
Any one who did mange to 'dance' was either drunk or deranged...probably both.
That and the fact that most the people there were so sleazy we left after an hour.
fail.
Other than that the town, the people, everything was brilliant!
So, when the entertainment fails...make your own entertainment...
We built a tent in one of the rooms and all sat under it drinking fizzy and eating.
Childish imagination is plenty enough to get by on. =D

(I'll finish updating later, i'm far too tired to do it justice.)

End of Exams!!

IT'S OVER!
seven years at the same school, 13 years of education behind me, Primary School - DONE, Secondary School - DONE, Sixth Form College - DONE!
I can't believe it, it hasn't quite sunk in yet! BUT IT'S OVER!
Until university in September.
I caught myself out there...it's not quite done.

I remember sitting in my Kitchen when i was about seven and planning with my parents where I wanted to go for university. - Admittedly i had originally aimed for Oxford, (dream big) but my directions have changed a little since then and i'll happily settle for Canterbury!
The next few days are going to be a blur.
Tomorrow i'm doing some last minute holiday shopping, Friday Imay or may not be going to see a production of 'Tap Dogs' in London's West End, Saturday i have reserved to  sleep and pack and Sunday i'm going to Newquay - Cornwall with a group of friends for four days!
Squeeeeeee!

I'm getting so excited, in Newquay it's four days relaxing, surfing lessons, horse riding, deep sea fishing and just being with my group of friends (some of them i've been with since we started secondary school back in year seven and some of them are newer friends and others i've know for about sixteen years.)
It's admittedly probably the last time we'll all be together as a 'group', it's bittersweet, it'll be amazing to all just spend a few crazy days together, but after we've all gone to Uni there's quite a few i probably won't see much again, it's like a final big group effort.

(The utter cheese in the next bit almost makes me cringe, so feel free to skip.)

It's weird thinking i've been at the same school for seven years, i've become who i am today because of everything that's happened there. (I did warn you,) I'm the person i am because of the people i met, some of them taunted the hell out of me for a few years, and some of them were by my side every step of the way.
It's amazing the kind of people who are willing to stand by you when you need them.
I'm almost sad to be going, I was one of those people who almost managed to enjoy going to school, but then again I am so, SO ready to go to university and see what's coming next.

Exams.

Today was the two hour A-Level English Literature paper which went incredibly well! Result.
I managed to write 11 satisfactory pages of analysis and answers for the two questions we were given. I've been revising for months in advance (Psychology was depressing and I've already completed my Drama A2 exam.) but it definitely paid off! It was the first exam i felt i've really answered well in (...here's hoping i haven't just jinxed my results.)
Next up is the two psychology exam left before my summer holidays officially begin! The Theatre studies written was last Wednesday, it went fairly okay but i got a little confused and there was a general consensus that two and a half hours wasn't enough to answer the questions in as much detail as we would have liked. However our performance pieces were so much fun, I've never loved and hated improvisation so much before in my life and fortunately the marks will help lift the overall grades.
I'm taking tomorrow off as a 'recuperation' day then the final slog for the psychology exam.
If i get it right now then it means i don't have to do it again
..."determination will out!" :)

"Extra, Extra!"

So today i was an extra on the upcoming 2011 film "The Great Ghost Rescue" and it was a tonne of fun. I met the chaperone's and the seven other girls at Waterloo station before we walked around the IMAX cinema and arrived at "THGR Base" at 2pm. Although the call was 2pm we didn't actually get on set until around 4pm, until then we were given trailers so relax in and sandwiches, cake and drink for refreshments. The day before we each had a call to say we could wear either shorts, jeans or skirts with summer shoes and nothing that was either green or red. We were each given a different colour top with I *pacman ghost picture* London, (I ghost London) which is obviously ironic to the films title, so my 'costume' was a white skirt and blue pacman t-shirt.  (and yes I really want to buy one now!)
The scene we shot was very short but so much fun to do!
There were a group of "Roman ghost soldiers" sitting outside a cafe and we had to weir for the directors cue before running up to them and asking for their autograph etc, the table of Romans i went to were ludicrously funny, they made it so much easier and more relaxing to film. We did a couple of run through's and then the real shot a couple more. The second clip we were acting as a small group out for a days shopping in London when one of the girls spots the Roman ghost and we all run towards them. To make it fit the previous shot of us running to the Romans we had to run in from a different angle, this meant walking down the street normally, then when the director called we turned and ran the opposite side of the camera so we were running diagonally across the screen so we stopped side on from where the other actors we sitting, we ran through it a couple of times and repeated the actual shot about 3-4 times. During takes it was quite easy to interact with the other cast (the Romans) and we finished about 7:10.
All in all it was such an amazing day, the actors were all really easy to laugh with which made it so much more fun and easy to film, it was really interesting to see what happen in front and behind the camera and amazing to be a part of it even for one small scene. I really hope i get to do some more acting again soon, it was so much fun!

I'm expecting my first grey hair any day now...(18 and getting old.)

CK Casting News!

So i realised it's been quite a while since I last posted, and since then i've turned 18, as have most of my friends, i'm finishing A-Levels this month and getting ready to go to uni!
However,

I got my very first casting call almost 9 months after i signed up, remember my first post? http://libbyysworld.blogspot.com/2009/09/ck-casting-day.html (excuse the picture, it's terrible) But i got a phone call today to ask if i wanted to go along for a days shooting as in extra in London for the film "The Great Ghost Rescue" which is due to be released in 2011! I almost hit the roof, i'd been talking things over not three days ago about how nothing had happened since September, it's the whole "talk of the devil" thing :D
I'm super excited, it'll be a great experience and i can't wait for this Thursday!
I did some research about who's in it http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185244/ and a basic plot summery about the book by Eva Ibbotson http://www.joblo.com/arrow/index.php?id=21888 and found some pictures http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=27885

I can't wait to see what actually happens 'on set' even if there is a lot of sitting or standing around, :)

Transplanting Memories ?

After completing a mountain of homework i took a break watching channel 4 documentaries, firstly i watched "ninety sleeps a day" which was all about narcolepsy but didn't really teach me any more than i already knew.
Secondly i watched a really interesting documentary about "Transplanting memories." It looked as cases where people (5-10% of recipients) had received heart transplants and with that 'inherited' memories, their personalities completely transformed, their tastes changed, their preferences were totally different and some of them feel as though they were being driven by a totally different personality.
Scientists have found neurons in the heart that are also found in the brain, this potentially means that the heart does in fact have it's own memories! However, this is not the case for everyone, some people had no change at all (but i'm not interested in them.) xD
Some doctors believe it's all psychological and that the medication, stress, setting and adjusting body mean that the change is not the cause of the heart.
However, there have been incredible parallels between doner and patient, the patients who received the hearts discovered that the new personalities or preferences were in most cases, identical to the doner they received it from.

I think this is an incredibly interesting concept, it would mean that the heart is interconnected on a different level that previously thought. The heart and the brain are constantly connected and 'sharing' information, therefore is it possible the the heart from one person can still have a partial memory of the previous brain which is then merged with the memory of the new brain and thus provoking a change.

I can't wait to see how this theory develops, there are still many sceptics but i think there is so much potential to be uncovered that we had no idea about :)

The First Hung Parliament

Yesterday i spent ten minutes walking around a Primary school trying to find the way in so that i could cast my vote, as a first time voter i've been watching the 2010 general election live TV debates, they've actually been fairly interesting, Cameron and Brown spent the entire time throwing comments back and fourth and Clegg, who i hadn't even heard of before, was the only politician who actually seemed to answer anything.
I had two votes, one for the overall general election and one for the local council and after thinking about it for a while i voted differently on both.
The conclusion today was that the UK now faces the first hung parliament since 1974!
I'm actually pretty happy, i'd talked it over with friends and said that i thought this would happen, either way, the results were always going to be good providing there was no outright win for Labour, 16 years and they've done...not exactly nothing, but very little.
I've grown up under a Labour government and I think the UK is more than ready for a change!

BBC official results:

-The Tories defeated Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik in Montgomeryshire on a gigantic 13% swing, and won the symbolic seat of Basildon. But they did not win Gedling, Tooting and Bolton North East from Labour, all key targets, and failed to unseat Schools Secretary Ed Balls in Morley & Outwood.
- Two former Labour home secretaries lost their seats. Jacqui Smith was defeated at Redditch by the Tories on a mighty swing of 9.2%, while Charles Clarke lost to the Liberal Democrats in Norwich South.
- Esther Rantzen failed to win Luton South, the seat being held by Labour. Independent MP for Wyre Forest, Dr Richard Taylor, lost his seat to the Conservatives. BNP leader Nick Griffin was roundly defeated at Barking where Labour's Margaret Hodge increased her majority.
- The Green Party won their first ever seat in parliament when Caroline Lucas took Brighton Pavilion from Labour.
- In a shock result from Northern Ireland, First Minister Peter Robinson has been defeated in Belfast East by the Alliance Party.

I thought these pictures did a pretty good job of summing up UK politics:

A supporter of the Alliance For Green Socialism party takes a rest during the Leeds electoral counts in the John Charles Sports Centre, Leeds. (PA)
Rahman Mohibar, a Liberal Democrat council candidate for Whitechapel has a rest during the general election count for Poplar and Limehouse at Mile End Park Leisure Centre in East London. (PA)

okay in all fairness, it had been a long, long night.

Out with the old, in with the new

So this is my fist post as a legal adult. My old blog started going a bit funny so i decided it was high time to get a new one going, there's so much coming up this year, University, friends, moving out, getting a job, becoming independent...but i'll never forget the old blog and the 'old memories'

Link: http://www.libbyysworld.blogspot.com

But in with the new, :D
